What is Revolutsia?
By definition, Revolutsia is “a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something: a change in paradigm.” Located on the corner of East Central Avenue and Volutsia, Revolutsia is changing the look, energy and usage of Central and Volutsia in Wichita, Kansas.
Using an established building and additional shipping containers utilized as “building blocks,” the corner is used for retail, restaurants and office space. The focus is an outdoor food court and seating area that creates a sense of community and belonging.
Concept and Execution
The shipping container construction method has been seen across the country, and Bokeh Development envisioned bringing that to Wichita with a restaurant and retail open environment and all-season outdoor space.
Revolutsia used 36 shipping containers that are eight feet wide and nine feet tall with varying lengths, but mostly at 40 feet. These were used to construct the two story development with an open air gathering point at the center. The central area features tables with umbrellas, a center fire pit, decks, an elevator to the second floor and includes the existing trees.
In addition, there was an existing stone cottage, and Bokeh Development utilized their philosophy of bringing the old into the future with the new by incorporating it in the design and construction of Revolutsia.
Bokeh Development worked with Shelden Architecture, Farha Construction and Weigand Commercial to design, build and fill Revolutsia.
