The space formerly housing Little Lion Cafe will be home to a new venture — Better Yet Coffee Roasting. Better Yet will be a combination coffee roasting business and cafe. A roaster has been installed in the loft of the space, and the main floor will still be a cafe. The menu will include all the espresso drinks people expect from a coffee shop, and they’ll likely add snacks and treats that pair well with coffee. People will also be able to buy fresh roasted coffee beans to take home. The cafe’s hours for its soft opening, which starts Saturday, will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. The Millers plan to eventually expand the hours.

Javan Andrew is opening his pop-up store, J. Andrew, upstairs at Revolutsia on Small Business Saturday on November 30. It will feature jewelry made out of natural stone beads with sterling silver accents and handcrafted soaps. There will also be a curated selection of other artists' work. Hours on November 30 will be 11am to 9pm, with a kick-off cocktail party from 6 to 9pm. Regular hours will be 11am to 6pm, Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 4pm on Sundays through the holidays.

Bengston says, "We're creating a physical gathering space for the local media to collaborate on potential projects." The event will include live polka music, sauerkraut- and pretzel-eating contests, games for kids and staff dressed in lederhosen and dirndls. Taco Locale, a new mini restaurant owneed by three young chefs — Carlos Vera, Myranda Miller and Jason Rickard — is set to open on Tuesday, September 17 at Revolutsia. Taco Locale will offer a rotating selection of three to five tacos filled with Kansas-sourced meat and at least one vegan/vegetarian option. On Sundays, they will exclusively serve brunch tacos. Customers can dress up their tacos at the toppings bar, which will include salsas, pickles, and other locally-sourced, organic toppings.

A new "taco outlet" is opening at Revolutsia! Taco Locale will serve tacos made using locally and regionally sourced meats and veggies. The tacos feature unique toppings and are served on blue corn tortillas made by local tortilla factory Pinole Blue. In addition, Taco Locale will serve aguas frescas, chips and homemade salsa.

Ze German Markt, which is the new project by Prost owners Manu and Austin English, quietly opened last week on the upper level of shipping container mall Revolutsia, 2721 E. Central, and customers have been clearing the shelves faster than the owners can refill them.

mamafilm kicked off with sold-out showings during its opening weekend. Lela Meadow-Connor, former executive director of the Tallgrass Film Festival, is organizing the series and said, "Audiences enjoyed the film and stayed for a conversation afterwards. Both screenings were sold out, and it was great to see attendees supporting the other businesses in Revolutsia, which is a big goal of the project." But things are just getting started. Ever since German restaurant Prost opened in late November at the Revolutsia shipping container mall, it’s been crowded with people hungry for schnitzel and bierocks and German potato salad.

Five months later, owners Manu and Austin English are ready to expand. By the end of May, they plan to open a specialty market right next door to their restaurant. It’ll be called Ze German Markt (which translates to The German Market) and it will sell German groceries and gifts.

Pop-up stores and eateries haven’t cornered the whole market on fun in temporary spaces. Revolutsia, the shipping container development at Central and Volutsia, is going to be home to a microcinema called mamafilm from May through October.

“I feel really lucky that I’m being given this opportunity to do that here,” says mamafilm creator Lela Meadow-Conner. She’s the former Tallgrass Film Festival executive director who now runs the Film Festival Alliance from Wichita.
